Prior to law school, Sunny was a public school teacher in Los Angeles, California. She graduated from Seattle University School of Law in 2005 and received her U.S. Patent and Trademark admission in 2006. Sunny's undergraduate degree from University of California, San Diego was in Biochemistry and Cell Biology.

Since becoming a licensed attorney, Sunny has been active in bar and community organizations, and operated her own law office prior to joining the Law Offices of Susan Millican O'Brian & Associates, PS. Sunny has been volunteering as a pro bono family law attorney for the King County Bar Association and has also volunteered at Legal Voice (formerly Northwest Women's Law Center) since 2007. Sunny is also fluent in the Korean language.
