    About

    • From Susan’s Perspective: David is a compassionate advocate. He is a strategic negotiator. He works vigorously in assisting his clients to reach a successful conclusion in their matter. David is a seasoned family law attorney, who has also built a good reputation with present and former Family Law Commissioners in King County. He is always very prepared, presents his case well to the Court, and is temperate in his presentation, making him very credible and believable. He has a deep respect for people going through difficult times in their lives, and does not hesitate going the extra mile to further his client’s case. David is married, with two children, and enjoys climbing, skiing, and volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America.
    • From David’s Perspective: Growing up as the son of a trial attorney in Western Washington, I always knew that I wanted to be a litigator. After graduating from law school, my Father somewhat unexpectedly approached me and asked if I would consider working in his general practice firm. For the last 12 years, I have had the opportunity to represent a wide variety of clients with an equally wide array of legal issues, including: business and real estate litigation, personal injury claims, probate litigation, and a wide variety of family law related claims. I am now happy to draw on my 11 years of general civil litigation experience and focus my practice solely on family law related claims. Family relationships are the source of many of life's greatest joys and when those relationships change, it can be a source of great stress and anxiety. In addition to the emotional consequences, changing family relationships also have long-lasting financial consequences. Finally, changing family dynamics often affect not only the relationship of the parties involved, but also the parties' relationships with children and other family members. As an attorney, I pride myself on helping clients to gain an understanding to allow them to make practical decisions about how to transition their family relationship in such a way that they can move forward with the next phases of their lives.

David represented me when I was involved in a lengthy custody battle. He explained all of my options and guided me through the entire process. As my family law case was pending, I was also accused of a criminal offense. David helped me deal with that situation as well and helped me to minimize the impact of that accusation on my ability to see my daughter. Throughout both proceedings, he allowed me to determine what my priorities were and gave me the information that I needed to make my own decisions. With his guidance, I feel like I was able to expedite both proceedings and, ultimately arrive at a resolution that would allow me to maximize the time that I have to spend with my daughter. I would recommend him to anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation. -PV, Federal Way.

David was a great coach, friend and advocate for me while my case was pending. In the end, we prevailed in mediation and arrived at an acceptable settlement. During the complex and confusing litigation process, David was always there. He returned phone calls, answered emails and did his best to keep me calm walking me through my deposition and ultimately, successful mediation. David is a top notch lawyer and outstanding person. I always felt he was on my side and can recommend him without any hesitation. -JK, Seattle.

I was lucky to have David D. Goodwin enter my dissolution/custody case after another lawyer had initiated the process. He came recommended by a friend as being a thoughtful, consistent, and diligent lawyer which he was. He demonstrated a very strong professional manner in recruiting and dealing with the auxiliary personnel involved with our case and had an extensive knowledge of family law. He gave reasonable and practical legal advice. He kept on schedule, prepping me for future big filings. He demonstrated wisdom of what issues would be pertinent to address, and how to achieve our desired end goals. David's dedication helped to reassure me that my family would come out of the process in a place of stability. In addition, he was able to ensure that all parties were respectfully treated in the process, lending to an easier post-divorce interaction between them. Even though this was a difficult time, I will always be grateful to David for getting me through it smoothly in the most dignified manner possible. I highly recommend David to anyone looking for a divorce attorney. -Anonymous, Seattle.
